Many are looking for more ways in helping to NOT catch the “bug” going around and guess what holiday is around the corner? You guessed it, Halloween! What does this have to do with avoiding viruses?

We have talked before about how bad sugar is for the immune system.  Today, let’s get to some of the details on this.

The late Dr. Emanuel Cheraskin did some research on how sugar affects our white blood cells (cells that fight infection)

Here’s what he found:

White Blood Cell Index:

Average White Blood Cell-destroys 13 enemies

After 6 tsp of sugar-destroys 10 enemies (30% less)

After12 tsp of sugar, destroys- 5 enemies (85% less)

Eating 12 tsps. of sugar is not hard.  There are about 10 tsps. of sugar in a can of pop.  We also tend to have a donut or candy bar with it.

You can see how this leaves us in a vulnerable situation when a bug is going around.

So, if you have an infection or if you are having surgery and want to recover well and fast, sugar is not your friend.

There is a double whammy where sugar is concerned as it uses up a lot of nutrients when it’s metabolized.  Many of these are nutrients VERY important for the immune system: (Ask me about what I work with ):

Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Protein,

Potassium, Phosphorus, Magnesium,

Copper, Chromium, B-Complex,

Iron, Zinc

So you can see, besides keeping our white blood cells from fighting infection, it also keeps our immune system from being fed.

We’re not even going to talk about how sugar causes inflammation in our cells.  A talk for another time!

So, be a “sweety” and stay off the sugar.  Your white blood cells will by thankful!

Instead, have an apple!
